BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power” by Vernon Howard

Noticing our negativities is a curious process. It is like seeing a shadow and taking it as a frightening phantom. If you look closely, you see it as a mere shadow. But refusal to look at it perpetuates the painful illusion of a frightening phantom. This is the awful state unnecessarily endured by millions of unawake people. They suffer without knowing why.

Vernon Howard

Worrying about scary things makes them scarier. They are illusions. They have not materialized. As we awaken, we become calmer about examining our illusions for just what they are – phantoms. No shadow can overpower the Light within YOU!!!

MUSE-INGS: What? Me Worry?

Some of us are old enough to remember Mad Magazine and Alfred E. Newman with the ‘What? Me Worry?’ smile on his face. How nice it would be to adopt this attitude toward all our problems!

I see worry as a huge drain on energy, away from the energy pie of today. Each day we start with one energy pie. We choose each day how many slices to make in that pie and to which activities we are giving those slices of pie. Some days we might make huge slices and work on only a couple of projects. Other days, we cut up slivers and divvy them out to lots of different activities or people.

When worry takes over, we cut a big slice of our energy pie and throw it away. Worry is planning energy, creating a mind wrapped around a possibility that has not materialized. And, knowing about the Laws of Attraction and Manifestation, we then energize the very thing that we don’t want to have happen. Bummer!

Since great worriers are also great planners, (they have to be to be so good at creating a picture of the future that hasn’t happened yet!) what if you took your energy for worry and turned it into the energy of planning for the outcome you desire? Much more fun to picture a happy desired outcome than a dismal one!

This is the difference between saying to yourself, ‘I hope I don’t catch that cold’ and ‘I plan to stay healthy.’ Since the unconscious mind can’t understand a negative without storing a picture of the phrase without the negative, the ‘I hope I don’t catch that cold’ thought creates and stores a picture of catching the very cold you don’t want to have! Much better to think, ‘I plan to stay healthy’ and then create a mind picture of staying healthy.

Worry works like that. You must create a picture in your mind of the horrible thing you are worrying about. Think of the energy it takes to create that scenario and plan all the details about which your are worried. Now take that energy back into your energy pie and devote it to something more productive in helping you to lead your richest life.

Whatever you are worried about might be a real problem in your life. I don’t mean to diminish real problems. But taking a slice of energy pie and devoting it to worrying about something that might happen does not use your most creative energy in the most productive manner. Instead, how about using the feeling or worry as a signal that your creative juices are about to start flowing and you want to choose to direct them in a positive way, rather than in the negative direction of worry?

Plan for the success you desire. If you are worrying about a certain outcome, then energize a different one with your thoughts. If you have a problem that you are worrying about but have not made any progress in solving, then change how you are thinking about the problem and look for some solution to ponder instead of the problem. Even the most outlandish possibility might hold some clue to the optimal solution.

And PLAY. Sometimes worry just indicates the need for you to get in touch with the energy of play. Make something. Play with kids. Get out crayons and paper and draw something. Get your hands in the dirt or the dough or the clay and form something. Play a game, sing a song. PLAY.

Get those creative juices flowing and apply them to the possibilities that hold the most energy for you. You don’t need to ignore the problems. The choice isn’t between worrying and ignoring the problems. The choice is to be your creative self and solve problems rather than to worry about them.

Explore the field of all possibilities with the energy of play and watch the wonderful solutions appear!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Sphere of Light: The Element Orbs” by Cody Kilgore and Carl Tucker

David and Bobby [the helpful elf] set off to find the Darkness Orb in the Castle of Doom to the south. So they traveled to it in ten hours. When they got there, they saw King Triton, the dragon, Thor, the Cyclops, and the Wind God back to seek their revenge [for taking the Orbs from each of them]. David charged in the middle of them with the water sword and stabbed the dragon. The dragon disappeared. Then David sent out a tsunami and defeated all the enemies.    David ran into the castle with all the orbs except one in his hand. He saw the Black Knight. David tried to beat him with his water sword, but it seemed to have no effect. The Knight pinned David down, took the orbs, and put him into the dungeon. In the cell, David saw a light sphere. David finally knew what could defeat the Black Knight. He knew what the sphere was called – the Light Orb. He used the light to bring the key to him. He unlocked the door to the cell.    He charged up the stairs and said, ‘Black Knight, bring it on!’    The Black Knight came out of nowhere and said, ‘No, not the Light Orb! I forgot I had left it in the dungeon!’ And he started to fade fainter and fainter until he was nothing but a speck.    David looked all over the castle for the orbs. He only had 20 minutes ‘til nightfall to find the orbs. He finally found them in the window sill. He raced out of the castle.    Once he got out, the orbs started to rise in a circle. They started to form a portal for him to go back to the real world.

Cody Kilgore and Carl Tucker

This is an unusual Book Lights quote. It’s from a wonderful story that our grandson, Cody, wrote with his friend, Carl, six years ago. The story is about a boy, David, who moves through a portal into a different reality where he must find the Element Orbs. This quote is from the final chapter, whose title is ‘Darkness vs. Light.’    Cody is now 13 so this was written by a young boy who ‘gets it.’ What is the Black Knight in your life? Remember, all you must do is shine the Light Orb onto it to reduce it to a speck! Do you need a ‘David’ to guide you to the Light Orb? Find one so that you can ‘go back to the real world.’ Shine the Light on your illusions and you will find reality! And the little children shall guide us!

MUSE-INGS: Where’s your ‘Lens of Learning’?

Life can certainly leave us myopic when we focus only on our self and what we want. We can forget that we are living in the Earth School so that we can spend this time on the Planet to facilitate our Soul’s growth. Maybe we each need to wear a magnifying glass necklace (I happen to own one!) to remind us of our possibilities for learning in every situation.

When people work with me in the intensity of A Day With Your Muse, a full day session wherein we work through a process to bring clarity to their vision and a plan for implementing that vision, we often spend a lot of time working through family of origin issues or internal blocks that they might not have realized were holding them back. So, even though they think they are focused on their business or their future, it is the personal growth work that allows them to experience the quantum leap forward in their desired success.

What are you not learning today? What can you not see clearly because you think that ‘personal growth work’ means setting aside time to meditate or journal or have counseling/coaching sessions? Maybe the learnings are present all the time and all you have to do is notice them.

Remember, we human beings are learning machines. Watch a baby. Every moment she is learning something new. Every step a toddler takes is feeding information to her about what walking is all about, and sometimes what it is NOT about!

If you think that you do not have time and/or energy to devote to working on personal growth at this time in your life, then think again. Look at every item on your to-do list as a task under the category of ‘Personal Growth Work’ and the actual task you are accomplishing as the classroom in which you are doing the learning. The energy is already expended. The focus can be two-fold: get the task done AND learn something for your personal growth.

Maybe our brains aren’t really that great at multi-tasking, but we are certainly good at creating meaning in our efforts and experiences. We learn what works and what doesn’t work. We try something. We interact with others and create ways to be successful in those interactions.

And we can learn something about ourselves, about how the world works, about what our roles are, and about how we can continue to grow through every experience in our daily lives.

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Healing of America” by Marianne Williamson

Our ultimate ground of being – what the Chinese call the Tao – is the mystical oneness out of which all worldly manifestation flows. To see how the greater oneness is in constant process of giving birth to two – that yin and yang might then come together again and give birth to another one – is to hold the key to greater understanding of anything in the world.

Marianne Williamson

When we understand that we are all a part of the oneness, then we start to comprehend how we can be individuals and part of the whole at the same time. It is not either/or. It is always ‘and.’ Think of yourself as You, the Individual, AND You, the Member of the Community. Thus, the greater good of the Community can also be the greater good of You!

MUSE-INGS: Who is Your Tribe?

The Mystic Messages have had a lot to say about ‘community’ this year. I’m guessing because we human beings need to be hit over the head sometimes before we get the message we need to hear.

This community of Colorado Springs decided to choose to have half the street lights turned off rather than to raise property taxes a penny to keep them on. The city made national news for that decision. Then our neighbor’s daughter hit a deer in the road because it was a stretch with no street lights and she couldn’t see the deer until it was too late. This poor high school student was very disturbed by the incident.

Fortunately, she was not hurt but the damage could have been much greater. Was that worth keeping a penny per some unit of assessed value? When does the good of the community become more important than the penny?

Why do you suppose that we’re being told so much about ‘community’? Why do you think it’s coming up again and again for us to look at? What happens inside you when you think of the word ‘community’?

For some, the word evokes a strong sense of belonging, of being a part of a tribe joined for the common good. For others, it brings up a fear based on an experience of suffering at the hands of a community that abused or ignored or in some other way was not a good fit for the person. Others think of community as being a group who want to take something away from them that is ‘mine’ – picture here a 2-year-old saying that word with all the ownership a tot can express!

What does ‘community’ mean to you? And can we define/redefine it so that it moves us forward in the evolution of consciousness?

I think it’s important for us to grasp the concept of our being social animals, that we live in community with others whether we like it or not. Unless you are a hermit living in a cave at the top of a mountain somewhere (and I suspect that if you are reading these words, you are not that!) then you live in a community of individuals – your neighborhood, your social tribe, your work colleagues, your family. How do you relate to the others around you?

More importantly, have you found your tribe of like-minded folk with whom you can let your hair down and be your authentic self? Are you a member of a community where people share values and ideals and are exploring how they can live a richer life while helping others to do the same? Do you know how to find that tribe for yourself?

There are intentional communities springing up in many places, including online. Many times there are serendipitous connections being made that lead to the forming of a community. Sometimes it takes intention on the part of one or some individuals to make it happen. And maybe, just maybe, you are the epicenter and it is time for you to gather around you the folks with whom you can relate.

Each individual is a part of multiple communities and the good of the community rests on the shoulders of the individuals who make up that community. If you think that your desires should trump the needs of the communal good then you really need to examine your responsibilities to that community. We human beings need to look beyond ourselves to make contributions that acknowledge our connectedness, not our separation.

Do the inner work to examine your life in this context. What communities are you a part of and what is your role? What communities do you want to become a part of and what is your opportunity to create that connection?

Who is your tribe?

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Cheiro’s Language of the Hand: The Classic of Palmistry” by Cheiro

’Know thyself,’ the motto of the ancients, is the simplest but the grandest sermon that can ring within our ears. By the knowledge of nature do we honor nature; let us then consider the study that can give such knowledge; for by the knowledge of self may we master self, and by the improvement of self may we also improve mankind – to the advancement of the race, to the honor of the world, and to the glory of those who, in the march of time, will fill life’s broken ranks, and some day take our place.

Cheiro

From this book, published in 1949 after the death of Cheiro [1866-1936] we see how highly he held the idea of knowing oneself. The ancients also know how important this is. And, yet, we are often too busy to spend the time it takes to work on self-knowledge, to develop the skill of examining the self. Jump on the ‘Know thyself’ bandwagon and find a way to learn more about yourself, your gifts and talents, your Soul Purpose and your Life Mission. Scientific Hand Analysis is a great way to start!

MUSE-INGS: Personal Growth and New Ideas

If our thoughts come from ideas, then we really do need to be careful about the ideas that we embrace, don’t we?

In working with private clients over two decades I have seen that the limiting beliefs people carry with them stem from some idea that they embraced as immutable truth, usually when they were a child. This is not to criticize the parents, for they were doing the best they could, and often they had no idea that the child was embracing what the child thought was immutable truth but which the parent was able to contextualize differently.

How many of our current thoughts rise up from some idea our 5- or 6-year-old inner child embraced as Truth with a capital ‘T’? This is the work of personal growth, to ferret out those ideas, embraced without examination, that form the basis for many of our current thoughts, especially those that are holding us back from accessing our own inner greatness and from sharing that with the world.

I believe that each of us has an Inner Splendor, a brilliant Light that is ready to shine forth into the world when we access, appreciate and allow it to shine. When we shine this Light through our Soul Purpose in Life we invite others to join us on the Path of Light. This is the beauty of accessing our Inner Splendor and shining that Light.

But what blocks most people are the thoughts that limit them from their own greatness, the thoughts that, when the original idea from which they stem is identified, can be examined and eliminated or embraced depending on whether or not they serve the individual at this time. This is the real work of personal growth.

Are you on a path of examining your thoughts for their origins? Do you continually examine situations in your life for whether or not they stem from beliefs that come from somewhere or someone else, not your Inner Splendor?

The 21st Century has its own transformative energy [especially emphatic as it was ushered in in 2012] and invites us to examine every aspect of our lives so that we can grow in Consciousness and expand our awareness of the workings of the World.

Personal growth is not just about the person. Personal growth is the work we do as individuals that moves us forward on our path so that we might manifest that Inner Splendor as we agreed we would do when we took on this lifetime. Each of us has a Soul Purpose to realize and express. We have a Mission to accomplish on Planet Earth. And all of this depends upon our doing our personal growth work to create clear channels of the energy of Light that shines through us.

Commit yourself to doing your personal growth work. It’s never ‘done.’ I have been actively engaged for a very long time and I am still surprised at things that come up for me to examine and change. I still find things that lurk inside with their insidious influence. It feels so good to release them!

And when I work with clients it is a joy to get the feedback of the freedom they experience when they release their limiting beliefs, the thoughts that no longer serve them!

Do your personal growth work, whatever form that takes for you today. Release the thoughts that depend on your holding onto beliefs that do not serve you. Reach into that higher frequency level of the Light of Consciousness for some new ideas to examine.

You’ll be glad you did!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Just Girlfriends: MoreThan Just Chit-Chat and Chocolate” by Bonnie Louise Kuchler

So long as you can sweeten another’s pain, life is not in vain.  – Helen Keller, American author

Bonnie Louise Kuchler

Is your Mission to ‘sweeten another’s pain’?    [with thanks to Cass Mullane for the gift of this book – you sweeten my pain, Girlfriend!]

MUSE-INGS: The Path of Personal Growth Takes You Through the Doorway

How many times have you stared at a Doorway of Opportunity and yet chosen not to step through? Each of us has done that, haven’t we? Sometimes it is because we are afraid to leave the comfort of the familiar place we are in, even if that comfort comes from familiarity and not necessarily what is best for us. And sometimes we are afraid that, if we step through the doorway, we will be asked to ‘play bigger’ than we are comfortable with. Isn’t this really why we content ourselves with ‘playing small’?

When I hear people talk about the fear of public speaking being worse than the fear of death (not for me, but for some) then I think of the ‘stepping out on a stage and being seen’ aspect of public speaking. For some, it is the fear of being seen. For others, it is the fear of owning what you speak.

But we are all called to a life of speaking our truth. We all deserve to be seen. I met a woman recently who was moved because she finally felt ‘seen.’ This woman had the most amazing energy and Light around her, and yet there must be others who are avoiding ‘seeing’ that beauty.

Fear. Fear holds people back from seeing others in their Light because that might mean I should let my Light shine. Fear also keeps a person from playing in a bigger way because others might not ‘get it.’ Worse, others might be angry, or upset, or frightened. And what if ‘they’ don’t like me? We all worry about losing love.

This fear, though, really is the popular acronym: False Evidence Appearing Real. A friend shared a great quote with me today: ‘What you think of me is none of my business!’ This should become the motto of everyone who is afraid of stepping out in a big way!

Your Soul Purpose, your Mission, your Big Why — these are all YOURS!!!! And yours alone. No one else is here to live your Soul Purpose. No one else can accomplish your Mission on Earth. No one else has your Big Why. These are yours and they have been given to you as a part of the unfolding plan of the Universe.

These are also the gift that you have been given to make your life have meaning. You live among others who are on Planet Earth at a time contemporary with you because you all agreed as Souls before birth that you would share in this journey. They have your back.

You agreed to share your gifts. Do you know what they are? Your Soul Purpose was chosen by your Soul to fulfill a group agreement with the others in your Soul Group with whom you are traveling through life. Would you leave them in the lurch? Your Mission is a big mission, not a little task to be completed before you die. Would you leave this Mission unaccomplished? And your Big Why is the reason you are doing what you do, your motivation. Wouldn’t it be nice to have this Big Why identified so that you could fuel your life with the energy of that motivation?

Do the work. Examine yourself. Personal growth work leads to personal success in life. Entrepreneurs know this, which is why they are always working with mentors for both business and personal support. Conscious Living dictates that we examine our lives and become conscious about working on personal growth. The 21st Century is not giving us the luxury (is it really a luxury?) of plenty of time to get around to doing personal growth work. All the energy is focused on our doing the work NOW.

Step through the Doorways of Opportunity that are opening to you today. And trust that there will be more for you tomorrow. Clear the path to living your Soul Purpose and fulfilling your Mission by identifying your Big Why.

Today?
