MUSE-INGS: Choose What to See

It seems to come up all the time. Choose how you feel. Access the ‘feeling state of joy.’ Stiff upper lip and all that. Feel better.

I’ve heard people tell someone who has lost a loved one, ‘When are you going to move on?’ as though that grief is supposed to be done on someone else’s time table.

You might be reading this ezine thinking, ‘Well, that’s all right for others but my life really sucks right now and so I can’t choose to feel anything different.’

But you CAN.

This is the great truth. It’s okay to feel what you feel when something in life brings you pain. AND it’s okay to imagine that you can have something different as a choice.

Just because you are in a situation at the present moment doesn’t mean that you have to stay there forever. And just because you are in certain circumstances does not mean that your every thought has to be focused on those circumstances. Why not give yourself a breather?

Right now. No matter what is going on. Take a moment to go into peripheral vision and access more resources. Choose a point on the opposite wall that is up above you and tighten your vision until you are totally focused on that point. Really tighten up your focus. Now, keeping you eyes on that point, relax the muscles around your eyes and expand your awareness to the sides of that point, to the sides of the room, while keeping your eyes on the point. Relax. You can extend your awareness to incorporate much of the space around you while still looking at the original point of focus. You are taking in much more information that you were when you were tightly focused.

The Hawaiians call this ‘hakalau,’ a meditation form that the kahunas use. It brings into awareness what is in the peripheral vision and is very useful when driving or walking through a crowded mall. It also has an effect on your nervous system. You cannot do ‘fight or flight’ when you are in peripheral vision.

Think about this the next time you believe you have no other choices. Are you focused so tightly on one point that you are in tunnel vision and can’t see the forest for the tree? Go into peripheral vision. Take a moment and give yourself the experience of hakalau. What comes into your awareness that you hadn’t seen before? What other choices are around you?

And if you can’t see another choice, make one up! Your Unconscious Mind is trusting you to give it good data. Why ask it to store away images of what you don’t want? Your Unconscious Mind isn’t judging anything as good or bad, it just takes what you give it and saves it for you.

Maybe today is the day to make the choice to give your Unconscious Mind some fabulous images to store in your very own My Ideal Day TV Show! Think of it as your mental DVR saving the shows you want to replay whenever you choose.

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Peace and Plenty: Finding Your Path to Financial Serenity” by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Misery is, by her own nature, a passing phase of sorrow, one that does not linger uninvited. Her sojourns seem to be part of life’s required curriculum, perhaps because Misery endows us with compassion and empathy. A time will come when – because we know how much it hurts – we will be able to help another.

Sarah Ban Breathnach

We are blessed that we have learned a way to help others. May every circumstance in your life be healed with the end result being your leap in consciousness and your ability to help another with compassion and empathy.

MUSE-INGS: It’s 2012. Do You Know Where Your Transformation Is?

Well, 2012 has certainly been an interesting year for us! And it’s only half over!

I’ve been teaching about the coming changes for 20 years as a spiritual teacher and intuitive advisor. It’s never been about hoarding food or building a concrete shelter.

Oh, I remember the days of the Cold War in the 1960s, living in Washington, DC where we had to keep a week’s supply of food and water and pillows, etc. at school in case there was a nuclear attack and we couldn’t leave the school building to get home. (Not sure now how much protection it would have been from a nuclear attack if we’d been huddled in the school cafeteria but at least the nuns would have been praying for us!) And on Saturdays at noon the air raid sirens would be tested at the local schools and all traffic would have to stop for a few minutes. Everyone walked around on pins and needles wondering if the red button would be pushed. No one knew what would happen.

Some people have approached 2012 with the same kind of caution and preparedness. Having shelters built at great cost so they could live for a week or a month or a year. Stockpiling food and water and, maybe, guns and ammunition. Others have poo-pooed the idea that 2012 would bring with it any changes at all, discounting anything the Mayans might have predicted and relegating discussions of 2012 to ‘new age mumbo-jumbo.’

2012 is here. What is your experience so far? Are you seeing anything in and around you changing?

I have been focused on helping clients to leap forward in their personal and professional growth, for, really, those are intertwined. It’s time to claim your power and live your purpose. Are you ready? Have you done the preparatory work to leap ahead?

Personal growth work doesn’t mean the kind of therapy that was popular back in the 1960s and 1970s when we were worrying about the nuclear bomb. Today it means learning to examine your life and the world around you through the lens of this question, ‘What am I to learn from this?’ Everything has meaning. Every experience that you have is a growth experience, an opportunity for learning. Everything that happens is not happening to victimize you but to provide you with this opportunity to learn something – about you, about the world, about life.

Have you done the work to educate yourself about your typical responses to change, to external events? Do you know your instinctual reactions so that you can choose consciously how you want to respond? Have you identified your Life Purpose, the reason your Soul incarnated in this lifetime, so that you can bring your life into alignment with your Purpose? Are you willing to grow? To learn? To change?

Transformation sounds great, but it requires the shedding of the old as you grow into the new you.

I was bitten by a snake recently. I am fine, but a couple of weeks after that, we saw an empty snakeskin at my sister’s home, reminding me of the shedding of the old so that the new could be formed. Shortly after that, the Waldo Canyon Wildfire engulfed our neighborhood in Colorado Springs. We had to make peace with the possibility that we would be letting go of all our belongings that were still in that house. Blessedly, the house stayed intact although 346 homes in our area were destroyed and many more were damaged. Now, we are able to help a family displaced by that fire by selling our house to them so that they can start to rebuild their lives after losing everything.

What’s happening in your 2012 world? How much transformation are you prepared for? Are you living your Life Purpose? Are you living a Conscious Life?

It’s 2012. It’s time now.

MUSE-INGS: Healing vs. Curing, an Interesting Concept

Many years ago I shared a weekend retreat with Dr. Bernie Siegel, a cancer surgeon who has pioneered the understanding of the mind/body connection in medicine. It was a very special weekend with a small group of us experiencing amazing personal growth in a loving environment. Bernie Siegel introduced me to the idea that healing a life is more important than curing a disease. He spoke of cancer patients who held the space for broken families to come together and heal their wounds around the person who was sick. After the healing, the person might or might not be cured of their disease. Sometimes it was a couple who had grown angry with each other who found healing when they focused their attention on working together to combat the illness, drawing them into a shared battle that resulted in a new closeness. Sometimes it was siblings who were divided over their parents’ estates and money who found that the sibling love-bond was more important when one of them faced a life-threatening illness.

Bernie had us draw pictures and then helped us to interpret them. He said that, before he did cancer surgery or put a patient into treatment, he would have them draw a picture. If the picture showed a lot of anger or fear, he chose to postpone the surgery until the person worked through that to become accepting of the treatment. He told the story of a patient who was a Quaker who struggled with all the war-talk about treating his cancer: killing cancer cells, the war on cancer, etc. Bernie invited him to re-imagine the chemo treatment in a way that was comfortable to him. The patient drew a picture of helpers gently carrying away the cancer cells and leaving his healthy cells behind. The chemo was very successful after that.

Our minds have the power to change our lives. The man above still had a disease to deal with, but his perspective shifted away from the battle for the cure and onto the path for the healing. The chemo and treatment stayed the same. All that shifted was how he viewed this and how his doctor talked with him about it. Mind talk and outer language.

When I learned the power of mind talk and outer language I became an avid student of Neuro-Linguistic Programming [NLP] and Hypnosis. How powerful these tools are in helping people!

And so, as you might know, we recently faced the possibility of losing our house in Colorado Springs to the Waldo Canyon Wildfire. The fire raged and then swept over a ridge toward our house. The entire area had been evacuated in anticipation of the danger but we were already staying with our daughter 2000 miles away, awaiting the sale of that same house. We watched in horror as we saw flames engulfing the hill upon which our house stood, not knowing what would be the outcome.

Many people supported us with their good thoughts and prayers. Some said, ‘We pray that your house is still standing after this.’ But we were praying for something different. We prayed that whatever happened would be in our highest good. We knew that, whether the house stood or did not withstand the flames, there is a plan and the plan is working out as it should. We knew, too, that we would learn and grow from whatever that experience proved to be.

I won’t lie and say that this has not been an emotional time, but, in the midst of the distress, we let go of the personal items that were in the house, possibly burned. We let go of our attachment to that beautiful house and accepted its fate, whatever that was. Most of our distress was in the ‘not knowing’ and in the worry over the other residents and the firefighters who were valiantly attempting to save our house and others.

The house is fine. It stands intact. Our friend was able to inspect it for us and to report that it is ‘as if nothing happened.’ Our entire block is still standing, with the loss of 1 deck the only damage that we know of on the block. Others very nearby were not so fortunate.

We are now planning to rent our furnished house to neighbors who need to rebuild after their house was destroyed by the fire. It is an amazing consciousness to realize that perhaps our house had not sold yet so that it could be standing and available as housing for others. No one was hurt in it or saving it from the flames.

If we had prayed for the house to withstand the fire, we would have been praying for the cure. Instead, we focused on accepting whatever the outcome might be, so that we might grow through the experience. We prayed for healing.

We have grown. And we now have the opportunity to use the house that still stands to assist another family through their healing.

Which will you seek in the situations of your life? Healing or Curing the Disease?

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Beyond Positive Thinking: A No-Nonsense Formula for Getting the Results You Want” by Doctor Robert Anthony

Your intention sets the universe in motion. The universe flows in the direction of your intention, and so it is important to be clear on your exact intention in any situation. If you are absolutely clear as to your intent, your subconscious success mechanism will support you in getting there. Most people encounter problems in creating the kind of life they want because they have not clearly determined where they want to go, or visualized what it is going to look like when they get there. Those who lead purposeful, successful lives do so because they have set up in their mind a clear picture of what they want to create in their lives.

Doctor Robert Anthony

First create the Dream. Then focus your intention on it. Feel it in the present. Everything else will line up to meet that vision. And all you have to do is Imagine!

MUSE-INGS: Imagine You’re the Dreamer

So much to worry about. So much to do.

How much time each day do you spend worrying about what’s happening and worrying about getting things done? Let’s reassign that time to taking action to move in the direction of your dreams!

It is so easy to fall into the trap of believing that reality is what we see around us. There are people who criticize the dreamers for not facing reality and, yet, I believe that it’s the dreamers who can see what is Real with a capital ‘R.’ Listen to John Lennon’s song, Imagine, again and really listen to the words.

‘You may say I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one.’

We can all be dreamers and we can create THAT Reality.

It starts in your own life. What are your dreams for your life? Are you able to access a place of peace within you that helps you to bring that dream into reality?

Worry doesn’t take us where we want to go. Worry energizes the lack or the thing we fear or something else that hasn’t happened and magnetizes that. What we do instead of worry is to focus on the energy of the dream we have and bring that into our lives by magnetizing what we desire instead of what we don’t want to have. It might seem tricky but it’s simple.

Every time the specter of something you are worrying about arises, sing John Lennon’s song to yourself. Imagine being the dreamer who can imagine something better, something you want to see in your life. Replace the picture or the feeling of the worry with the picture AND the feeling of the dream.

That’s what you do. Replace the picture or the feeling of the worry with the picture AND the feeling of the dream.

Use your own power to energize your own dream. Other people can’t dream for you. Other people work with you to help you manifest your dream. As a mentor I hold the image in front of your face when you forget what your dream is. Find a mentor to do that for you. When the direction of your dream starts to get confused or blurry, have someone else in your life who can turn you back onto the correct road and clear your vision.

And don’t give your power away to anyone who wants to replace your dream, your vision for yourself with their wish for you. Parents, siblings, well-meaning friends and colleagues are looking through the lens of their own fears, beliefs and limitations. They cannot see through your eyes. They do not have the Soul Purpose that you came into the world to manifest so they can only see as far as their own vision can take them.

YOU know your own dream. And if it’s not clear for you, get some help in that clarification. YOU know your Soul Purpose. If you don’t, then have someone help you define it, through scientific hand analysis or some other means.

It’s helpful to have a mentor or coach or counselor to help you to see where you are going and to help you to make sure it is where you want to be going. You don’t have to do it alone. But choose your partner in this very carefully. Make sure it is someone who wants you to go where YOU want to go, not where they want to take you. Ultimately, it is your life and you are the director.

You are also the dreamer. And you’re not the only one.

Dream your life and then take action in the direction of your dream. The Universe will leap to help you manifest that dream.

Please feel free to re-post this article and share it with your readers and followers. All I ask is that you include the following information when you do:

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Law of Attraction is NOT a Secret” by Anita G. Wheeler

People send messages out to the universe, asking for money or abundance, when in fact, it’s financial freedom they truly want. They want to remove the stress, anxiety and worry that lack of money brings into their life, not an unlimited well of funds to dip into. They invoke the Law of Attraction but aren’t aware and clear about what they really do want.    Most people don’t actually want the things they wish for—-they actually want the FEELINGS they get from those things.

Anita G. Wheeler

Look at what you are wanting to attract into your life and make sure that you are matching that with the vibration that you are sending out to the Universe. You are always subject to the Law of Attraction, whether positive or negative. As an individual and as a Planet we are magnetizing the vibration of what we transmit. Make sure you personally are magnetizing what you WANT and not the energy of something that you don’t want! When we do this individually, we can change our own life and, ultimately, the life of the Planet.

MUSE-INGS: “No power in the ‘Verse…”

As fans of Joss Whedon’s ‘Firefly’ sci fi series we love the quotes from that clever TV show. When I think of an unstoppable power in the Universe, it’s Love.

How many phrases are there in our cultures that talk about Love?

“What the world needs now is Love, Sweet Love”

“Love makes the world go ‘round”

“All you need is Love”

The list goes on. And it is not just the fantasy of romantic love that is spoken of, but the unconditional Love of acceptance, non-judgment, tolerance, blessing.

Yet so many are angry, fearful and lash out at others in hatred. Why must we have laws against ‘hate crimes’? When did humans decide that they have the right to end another’s life because they don’t like them? Why is hatred/vitriol/anger the coin of the realm in talk radio? Why are so-called reality shows only supported if they include anger and drama and win/lose energies? Is this really what we want 21st Century humans to be identified with?

Think deeply about how you might contribute to this energetic in the world today. You don’t have to belong to the Ku Klux Klan to hold hatred in your heart. You don’t have to be the angry radio talk show host who fuels the anger and hatred of others by spouting vitriol, often based on lies but then the truth doesn’t matter either.

You just have to support this. Either by being a viewer/listener to increase the frequency of this energy being transmitted or by sending out your own energy of anger and hatred into the air around you. And you increase the power of this energy by ignoring that this is what is being transmitted out into the Cosmos from your Planet.

Think about living a Conscious Life, where you are careful of your own thoughts, emotions, words. You choose carefully how you live in relation to other people and to Mother Earth herself. You Love. And maybe you need to increase the energy of that Love so that you are a counteracting force for the Light.

When you become conscious that you are closing down, shutting the doors on your radiating Love energy, then ramp it up. Every time you think of what is written here, open your heart and send some Love energy into the Universe. When you are in discussion with another person, energize Love in the conversation. When you are in a disagreement, surround yourself with the Light of Love so that your words will be filled with that vibration and will not devolve into words of anger or lower vibrations.

Think thoughts of Love. You do not need to walk around in la-la land but the hippies of the 60s had a good idea about sharing the Love. “Make Love Not War” is more than a bumper sticker!

Choose to be the transmitter of Love out into the ‘Verse. We can counteract all those other energies by being conscious of the impact of our own transmissions. Let’s tell the rest of the Cosmos that not all humans live in fear, anger and hatred. Those of us who have chosen to live a Conscious Life are transmitting the energy signature of Love!

There’s ‘No power in the ‘Verse…’ as strong as Love!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Sacred Promise” by Gary E. Schwartz, PhD.

According to Native American mythology, the bear is the symbol of the power of introspection. According to the book that accompanies the Medicine Cards, the bear resides in the west, which represents the intuition. On occasions when I have become imbalanced — either valuing the cold reliability of technology more than the warmth and caring of spirituality, or embracing the comfort of logic and reasoning over the spontaneity and novelty of intuition — I have been gently yet firmly realigned by unanticipated synchronicities.

Gary E. Schwartz, PhD.

Many of the clients I work with are receiving clues about the direction they need to follow but come to me for help clarifying what those clues mean. Your intuition is giving you information all the time, often in ‘unanticipated synchronicities.’ Pay attention! And ask if you need help with the interpretation or in accessing the information available in your unconscious mind. You have everything you need to find your way!

MUSE-INGS: Step away from the distortions!

Have you ever held a compass near a metal door and wondered why the needle wasn’t pointing to True North? I have. When doing feng shui for a client where I didn’t know what was metal I could feel something was off when the needle didn’t match what the Sun was saying. I would often have to step back to get a clear picture of what direction was actually North. The client often had an idea because they had lived there long enough to become in tune with the directions so the work I was doing with the compass needed to come closer to what they had experienced.

This is what we do in Life. We have experiences. We integrate them and determine some meaning or direction from them. Sometimes we dismiss them as unimportant or insignificant, but is anything REALLY insignificant? I don’t think so.

Every experience that we have pulls together all of our previous experiences, all of our knowledge and innate wisdom, and in the cauldron of our unconscious mind, leads us to move in a direction that has been influenced by that experience. This is true even when it is an unconscious process.

Living a Conscious Life means that we bring unconscious processes into conscious awareness so that we can examine them for meaning.

We hear a lot about ‘truth’ these days and it is very difficult to discern the ‘truth’ in the news or world events. Because we cannot be privy to every world event and all the backstory that goes with it we cannot really understand what might be true and what is being shaded, spun, omitted so that what we hear and think is true might be far off the mark. Every person, in every country, is hearing information that might or might not be valid. What does this mean for you?

The place to test the information is inside you.

Your intuition is your ability to check what is the Truth for you. If you have a ‘gut feeling’ that something is not right, it is not right for you in that moment. If you have a ‘gut feeling’ that this is magnetically drawing you in its direction, then you are picking up something that is North for you in that moment.

When I teach about intuition I don’t have to teach much about getting those feelings I call ‘intuitive hits.’ What people need to learn is to TRUST those intuitive hits and gut feelings. Everybody knows what it feels like to get the hit – trusting it enough to follow through and take action is the important point.

So when you ask yourself, ‘What is my Truth today?’ what are you really asking?
