Happy Holidays! We’re in the amazing time of year where we immerse ourselves in holiday festivities and playtime. The days are continuing to get shorter as we approach the Winter Solstice here in the northern hemisphere. Wednesday, December 21st is the shortest day of the year for us. We celebrate Yule to remember that the Light is returning, that is, the days will start to get longer and we’ll be enjoying more daylight. To our friends Down Under, you will be experiencing the opposite, the return of the darkness as your days begin to shorten [and get cooler!].

Winter is the time to go inside, to ponder, to reflect, to review. This is a good week to review 2011, not to be judgmental or to criticize yourself for what you didn’t do or could have done better, but to notice what you’ve learned, how you’ve grown, what you have allowed to pass out of your life and what you have invited into it. Too often we get caught up in the planning of the New Year and forget to mine the treasures of the passing year so that we can gain the greatest value of our experiences. Catch yourself when you look ahead without appreciating what you have grown through. 2011 has been a gift, no matter what it brought to you.

And I have deemed 2012 The Year of Possibilities. At this moment 2012 holds amazing potential for each of us. Enjoy that uncertainty about what gifts will come in this new year. The field of all possibilities lies in front of us as we look forward to the coming year so stay open. Plan to receive the guidance available next year. Be careful this week as Mercury is retrograde [looking as if it’s traveling backward when viewed from Earth] and we’re having to pay a lot of attention to details. [Ask Richard about trying to order something that had to be redone 3 times!] Drivers are often distracted during these periods, too, so you might have to pay attention to the details of the traffic for them and drive defensively.

Happy New Moon and partial Solar Eclipse!  This energy started early this morning [Friday, November 25] in the Eastern US and can bring some new ideas about the future for you.  Certainly consistent with the idea of dreaming our visions into reality!  Mercury went retrograde on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day in the US, so now we have to be very detail-oriented as we must re-view, re-examine, re-do.  Pay attention to how things go for you in the next couple of days so that you can record this energy and see how it plays out in your life.  This is a great time to journal and record your dreams, nighttime and daydreams, your visions and your goals.  Focus on the new energies that you are ready to welcome into your life.

Greetings from Maryland where we are busily settling in to our temporary home with our daughter, Mindy. Richard and Mindy drove a truck with some of our belongings in it, towing our car, through very windy conditions from Colorado all the way to the East Coast. Thankfully, everyone traveled safely, including our Lhasa Apso, Tara. Now we are energizing the vision of the new owners of our house in Colorado Springs falling in love with the house so that their family can enjoy it as much as ours has.

Thursday of this week is Thanksgiving in the US where we will join with family around a big turkey dinner, watch some football, eat too much, play games and chat while we share what we are grateful for. It’s wonderful to be together with our Maryland family for this special holiday this year. Are you celebrating with family? Alone? With a ‘chosen family’ of friends? Even if you don’t celebrate a national holiday, how about taking some time this Thursday to write out a Gratitude List and read it every day for a month? Can you list 100 things that you’re grateful for? It’s a challenge but I’ve done it. And starting and ending your day in gratitude is a great energy for the rest of your day.

Also on Thursday we see Mercury going retrograde [2:12 am Eastern Time] before a powerful New Moon on Friday [1:10 am Eastern Time] and let’s just throw in a partial solar eclipse to the mix for fun! When this much is happening in the heavens you know there will be some energy felt here on Earth! The Mountain Astrologer magazine says these events ‘can shake the Earth with quakes or challenge society with system failures. This event symbolizes the need to re-examine our beliefs in light of current capabilities. Old aspirations may turn out to be impractical, but this New Moon eclipse can spawn fresh, realistic ideas about the future.’

Let’s all energize some positive visions of the future and use these energies to help bring them into reality!
