Mystic Messages

Fire, wind, record heat and a wedding. It  has been a chaotic time for us over the past two weeks! I regularly write and speak about change and chaos in my Ezine and video blog, The Daily Muse. But, you know, it’s not the events themselves that are all that important; it’s how we react to them that helps us move into new space, new understanding and new directions.

One of my new directions may be toward Colorado rather than Dallas as I had planned this week. We may have to get to our house in Colorado Springs to pick up any pieces there. But it’s OK; the house is in good shape as far as we can tell. We are blessed with the winds of change blowing through our lives!

***Waldo Canyon Fire***
Current Status: Our house is fine! Somehow it escaped the fire. Our entire block of homes inside the community of Longview at Mountain Shadows survived. A house across the street and four doors down was destroyed; the houses on either side of it damaged. A house on a court off our street was destroyed. Four houses in a row, behind us, destroyed!

And now we wait. The community  mandatory evacuation has been lifted and the fire is 100% contained. We now need to learn when we’ll have the gas turned on again so we can visit the house and determine what we need to do next!

Meanwhile we are establishing a “fire recovery fund” through our non-profit church organization. This will be used to help us finalize our move of the organization to Maryland, help make room for a family to rent from us in Colorado while their home is restored and to especially help the firefighters and first-responders who did so much to save our home and the many surrounding it!

Prayers for all of those who have been displaced, their homes destroyed, are always welcome!

Happy News! Our house in Colorado has withstood the Waldo Canyon Fire with no apparent damage! Thank you for your support and prayers as we watched from afar during the fire.

Not all our neighbors were as fortunate although our entire block is intact with only one house losing a deck but otherwise okay. We are truly blessed. Prayers and positive energy of protection DO make a difference! And so we are able to offer our house to another family to rent while theirs is being rebuilt. We are taking it off the market to provide a home to someone in need. It is a healing time for all of us.

Our great thanks go to the firefighters who worked so valiantly to save our house and most of the others. At the Severna Park, Maryland Independence Day Parade I thanked the local firefighters riding on their trucks and got teary with my feelings of gratitude for those in Colorado who saved our house. Please thank a firefighter today for being willing to help you, even though I pray you never have to ask them to save your house from flames.

In gratitude for our good fortune, we are moving our spiritual study center activities to this DC area and to the internet. We are restarting the Spiritual Exploration Group that we had enjoyed for several years in Colorado and will be meeting in person in Annapolis and online periodically by videoconference or phone. In these meetings we have ‘Discussion, not Dogma’ and enjoy lively discussions of various topics where we are all explorers and no one tries to force another to change beliefs. These are enlightening and fun experiences! We will also be re-starting celebrations around special days on the calendar and will be offering these via videoconference as well.

To help us move these activities to their online location and to move our Church of A New Alliance operations to the east coast, we are asking for tax-deductible donations to the Church of A New Alliance. Please join us in expanding our efforts to help others in their journey to higher consciousness. We will also be donating a portion of the funds raised for the Church to help the firefighters in the Waldo Canyon Fire. We have learned that some of them do not have health insurance for themselves and their families and we wish to assist with providing care for them.

In addition, the house in Colorado Springs becomes the home for someone directly affected by the fire. We will be moving some of our personal belongings from the house but are able to offer it furnished to a family that has lost ALL of their belongings. The Universe has a plan. It is always working out.

[I haven’t even mentioned the severe thunderstorms here in the East that knocked out power for almost 4 days so we were evacuated here, too!] But whatever the trials in your life might be, may you have the ability to find a higher perspective and seek the healing vs. the cure!

We are feeling a bit like refugees must feel! We escaped the wildfire in Colorado Springs where our house was surrounded by our neighbors’ burning homes! Then while in Annapolis, Maryland we were hit by a storm that has knocked out power for the past several days. So, we escaped to a friend’s house to charge all of our communications devices and gain respite from 100 degree heat!

To say it’s been an unusual summer so far is radical understatement! Meanwhile life goes on! I hope to see you under more “normal” circumstances soon!

***Waldo Canyon Fire***
Current: The fire is now 45% contained; the firefighters seem to have a good handle on it! Our community of Mountain Shadows remains evacuated but residents were allow in to visit their homes today. Our neighbor and a dear friend were able to assess our house and property; they reported everything is in very good shape with no apparent damage at all! Wow!

Prayers alway help! Continued prayers for the firefighters and for all who have lost their homes are still needed!

A Fire, A House, and Trust

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message to you as we watch the community of Colorado Springs, Colorado where our house is, suffer through the wildfire called the Waldo Canyon Fire. This fire started on June 23rd and they do not know when they will have it under control. They have no idea yet how the fire started.

For the first three days the officials were reporting that no structures had been lost to the wildfire, but last night [June 26th] Mother Nature took total control, shifted the winds, and blew the fire from the canyons of the forest into our neighborhood, Mountain Shadows. We watched in horror as the flames came over the ridge and down into the houses.

The Flying W Ranch, which has been owned by the Wolfe family since 1953 and has entertained us and many guests, burned to the ground. This local fixture is a few blocks west of our house. We watched other houses burst into flames. We listened to the scanner reporting that firefighters were working to save houses very near ours.

As the sun set and the skies darkened, the flames became more dramatic and more horrifying. At least the residents had been evacuated and moved to safer territory.

I can’t explain to you how it feels to hear the firefighters talking about trying to save a house a block or two from yours and then deciding that they cannot protect it. I suspect you can imagine the effect of a picture like the one above when you know that your house is behind that wall of flames. As I write this I don’t know yet whether or not our house is still standing. I do know that, even if the structure stands and many of the houses very nearby do not, our contents will have suffered the effects of smoke and water.

What do you value in your life? Your photographs, reminders of special people and events in your history. Certificates, diplomas, important papers. Collections. Artwork. Books.

Ah, the books. I love books and have been amassing an amazing library for decades. Spiritual books, metaphysical, quantum physics and other sciences, healing modalities, poetry, astrology, numerology, enneagram, feng shui. Years of journals. My favorite Regency Period romance novels. Gifts from others. Gifts from authors. 20 years of Mountain Astrologer Magazines. Can these survive even if the house is still standing?

I’ve been collecting piano sheet music since I first learned to play in the first grade. I have bought sheet music and saved programs from all the Broadway shows we have seen. I’ve collected a lot of holiday music. It’s all in that house.

We have some beautiful artwork by Britten, Pat McHold, Felipe Ortega that can’t be replaced if it’s been affected. My baby grand piano. The photographs, included a large one of my grandfather done when he was 7 in 1892. Wedding gown, Mardi Gras ball gown, Mom’s mink stole.

I admit that I’m an emotional store of memories in ‘stuff.’ But I am changing. We have had to let go of a lot of things as we have decluttered and prepared to move to Maryland. The rest of the decisions might have been made for us.

Think about what matters to you. What would you pack up to take with you if you had to leave your home? What really matters?

We didn’t have the opportunity to plan to evacuate. We weren’t there to do that. It’s possible that all we own is what we have with us at our daughter’s house. This is humbling.

But it is also an opportunity for a new beginning. Whether we can salvage some of our ‘stuff’ or not, we will use a different criteria for what we take with us and what we can let go of. What really matters? The answer to that question will guide us as we move forward.

I lived through a fire when I was a senior in high school. I was more concerned with losing my new prom gown and my parakeet. My only clothes were the ones on my back – the winter uniform of my Catholic girls’ school on the last day I was going to have to wear it. I had joked about burning this after school that day. Instead, all of my other clothes were burned and it was all I had left to wear.

But my parents taught me about their philosophy of life. ‘Things always work out for the best.’ They were so convinced of that, despite this tragedy, that I used the story for the first sermon I delivered when I was ordained. Trust. Trust that the Universe has a plan that is working out just as it should.

I remember the lesson.

My heart goes out to all who have been affected by this fire which has, to date, burned over 15,000 acres of beautiful forest, canyon land and neighborhoods. My gratitude goes to those firefighters and emergency personnel who are working to preserve our house and others. One story is that a firefighter worked to preserve a neighbor’s house a few blocks from ours while he was watching his own house burn down. A hero. So far there have been no injuries or deaths in this fire. We are grateful for this.

I pray that you never go through this experience. I am sending a different kind of ezine this week to share with you what we are going through. There are two messages for this week:

First, decide what really matters to you and use that to guide your choices.

Second, trust that the Universe has a plan that is unfolding as it must.

As my Mom and Dad said, ‘Things always work out for the best.’

What a week it’s been! First the trip to New Jersey for Monica Shah’s Money 2.0 Event, then a New Moon and the Summer Solstice. Lots of amazing energy to handle and now it is officially Summer here in Maryland – the Sun is in Cancer.

Did you do something to celebrate the Solstice? Here in the Northern Hemisphere we enjoyed the longest day, the most sunlight. I like to meditate on The Light and become One With The Light, one of my favorite meditations, on the Solstice. The world needs for us to ramp up the Light!

As I wrote this week’s ezine I listened to John Lennon sing his incredible song, Imagine, and I hope that you will find it on YouTube and listen to it, too. We can imagine the world we want to live in. It’s time! And no one is alone.

This past weekend I was in New Jersey to meet up with my friend, Cecelia Dawe-Gillis, whom I met through Baeth Davis. At the event I was surprised to find other friends from other tribes of which I am a member – at least 4 of them! I felt honored to be the Nexus of the Networks to which I belong. And I realized that we are all the Nexus of the Networks. Do you see that in your life? I even found that one new friend I met is a friend of a friend across the country – one degree of separation! We are all connected. Remember that.

I had a great week and I am looking forward to working with some new people in the coming weeks. One of my favorite things to do is to offer a Conversation with The Other Side for someone who hosts the event and invites their friends to join them. The astrological happenings of this week support the focus on imagining your dreams into reality. Around midnight Saturday/Sunday (Eastern Time) the Sun trines Neptune and carries us beyond isolation into a sense of connectedness with all life. “Forgiveness, faith, compassion, and imagination flow from this spiritually enriching aspect,” according to The Mountain Astrologer magazine. We’ve also got the Moon moving into Libra on Tuesday so there’s some beautiful energy of peace and harmony. With Neptune playing with the Sun and then Jupiter, pay attention to your dreams! And Imagine!

We’re in the full swing of Summer here in Maryland. The grandkids are done with school (although Mom has them doing some reading or academic practice along with the chores every day) and the air conditioning is running almost continually to manage the heat and humidity. And now we’re ready for the official First Day of Summer when the Northern Hemisphere experiences the Summer Solstice on June 20th. (Thinking of our friends Down Under who are much cooler than we are at the Winter Solstice!) To our friends who live nearer the Arctic Circle, enjoy the longest day, where the Sun never sets!

The energy is shifting. There’s a New Moon only 32 hours before the Solstice, on June 19th at 11:02 am Eastern Time. New Moons are a time when, as the Sun/Self and the Moon/Emotions line up together in the heavens and we get all the power of Self and Emotions energizing our thoughts, dreams and desires to bring them into manifestation. With the energetic gateway of the Solstice as a major turning point in the year, this week will have powerful energy available to you to direct in the way you choose. Be sure to focus on what you WANT to bring into your life, not on what you don’t want or what you are ready to release. Energize what you wish to attract and just release what you’re ready to release, including things like worrying about the future. When there are powerful events in the celestial realm we are invited to work with those energies for our highest good. This is one of those weeks!
