Think of yourself as a constant inspiration to those around you.  Act in every moment as if someone is watching you to learn how to improve their own life.  What are you teaching them?

MUSE-INGS: Be in This Moment by Rosemary Bredeson

Sometimes we look at a task before us as if it is a huge undertaking and the enormity can paralyze us.  We react by sticking our head in the sand, or procrastinating or distracting ourselves with ‘bright, shiny objects.’  And, yet, if we break the task down into smaller bites, we can accomplish those and make progress toward our goals.  We just forget that we already know this strategy.

In our daily lives, we can be overwhelmed with our ‘to-do’ lists and we forget that we are a part of a community, that there are others who have needs and we can make their day better by doing something small that feels huge to that other person.  The key to doing this is to being alert to opportunities.  Living a Conscious Life brings us into the Consciousness of the Moment – living each moment with full awareness, of Self and Other, so that we can fully participate in that moment.

Think about how many mindless things you do in a day.  How many minutes do you think you spend in activities that you perform by rote? How much of your day is spent being unconscious or thinking about something other than the activity in which you are engaged in that moment?  You wash the dishes and you think about your to-do list for tomorrow.  You take the dog for a walk and you’re planning your day.  You pick your children up and you are on the phone in the car while they are playing with their toys.  You and your spouse go through the mail and don’t talk to each other at all.  The list goes on and on.

Mindfulness is a practice where you are fully present to each moment of your day.  If you are washing the dishes then you are focused on the washing of the dishes.  You notice the temperature of the water.  You examine the plate to make sure it is clean and you appreciate the food that it held for you to eat.  You get the picture.

So what if you were to go through your day with that same kind of mindfulness focused on the people with whom you interact?  What if you paid attention to the people in line with you in the grocery store?  What if you stopped and listened for a bit to the street musician and then threw some money in the jar?  What if you really acknowledged the server in the restaurant or the receptionist in the office and asked, with genuine interest, how their day has been?

It doesn’t take much to make a difference in someone else’s day but too often we are so focused on the next thing we have to do or how well/badly the last thing we did went that we forget to be fully present to the moment we are living right now.  This moment is here only once in our life.  Every moment that we spend thinking of other moments is thrown away from the time of our life.  We can never get it back and time is our most precious commodity.

Now think if you used an awareness of this present moment as an opportunity to improve someone else’s life.  How would you feel at the end of the day if you took advantage of every opportunity like this?

Pretty darned good.

MUSE-INGS: Purpose doesn’t depend on Pounds [or Dollars]! by Rosemary Bredeson

I’ve been attending a lot of business seminars lately and they all seem to be focused on making more money.  Of course, people are in business to make a profit but I wonder if somewhere along the way we’ve forgotten WHY we want to make money.

Or maybe we’ve just forgotten the BIG WHY of each of our lives.  Have you ever questioned why you are incarnated on Planet Earth at this particular moment in the history of the Universe?  Do you really believe that the answer is ‘to make money’?  I’m guessing not.  So why are we so focused on the Almighty Dollar [or Pound Sterling or gold coin]?

I think the answer lies in the setup of the environment in which we find ourselves.  Some people tell us that making money is everything and others imply that it is a bad thing and we should give all of our money to them.  Hmmm….  What is wrong with this picture?  It seems to give power to money instead of power to the person who controls a commodity that we have collectively imbued with a certain value.

Now look at what we are being told in this message about our Life Purpose.  Are you in touch with what your Life Purpose is?  Do you feel that your current life is in alignment with that purpose?  If not, do you have a plan to discover your Life Purpose and to bring your life activities into alignment with it?  Maybe that should be at the top of your to-do list.

Who are the people in your immediate environment?  Do they support you in pursuing your dreams?  Will they support you if you decide to make some changes so that you can be more congruent with your Life Purpose?  Are THEY living in alignment with their Purpose?  What is their attitude toward money and happiness and having the resources to pursue their dreams?

Think about the energy of your own environment, both internal and external.  What are your beliefs about happiness?  About money?  Do you even know how to access your internal feelings and beliefs?

At this time in human history we must all be moving forward in our growth toward greater understanding and the evolution of human consciousness.  Having the resources to allow us to pursue higher thoughts, to examine philosophies, to move beyond survival into living a greater purpose on the Planet – these are qualities of an evolving life and the time and inclination to pursue these endeavors require that we have a certain freedom from worrying about money.  The person who is living on the streets is not free to ponder the greater scheme of things.  If you are reading these words you are probably enjoying enough resources to consider philosophy beyond pondering where your next meal is coming from.  Even if you are struggling financially, can you see that being in alignment with your Life Purpose creates a relaxation and a flow of energy that allows and invites the Universe to provide you with even more resources?  It is worth the effort to delve into determining your Life Purpose and to examine your beliefs around money and happiness.   Many people are joining you in this quest at this time.

It IS time to do this work.  All of humanity is asking each individual to lead a self-examined life and to contribute to the evolution of the collective consciousness of the Universe.  When you respond to the call to do this work the Universe has an obligation to provide the resources.  Don’t be afraid to do the inner work required.  You will be rewarded by being shown the ways to make the money to give you the freedom you need to live your Life Purpose.  Join the evolutionary movement!

from The Power of the Universe

This is the call to each and every human being: ‘to transmute into a new form or evaporate from the story.’  In other words, Shift or Get Off the Planet!  Everyone is always at choice about their life.  It seems the time is here now to choose to transmute.  All you need to do is show up and commit to personal growth.

MUSE-INGS: Shift or Get Off the Planet! by Rosemary Bredeson

Do you sometimes feel as if everything around you is in a whirlwind and you’re trying to stand still but it’s hard?  Or are you the whirlwind and everything around you is stagnant and not moving with you?  Either way you can feel out of kilter with what’s happening in your environment.

I sometimes wonder how some people can stand still when there’s so much exciting energy to step out with but a lot of people are holding firm to where they have been before because it’s comfortable, secure, safe.  I used to be that way, too.  But I learned that exploring the world of ideas, of Consciousness beyond the ordinary, was a far more exciting place to hang out than in a bar with those who just wanted to drink themselves into oblivion.  I’ve never understood choosing that kind [or, actually, any kind!] of oblivion so I’d be the one drinking club soda.  I eventually decided that I just don’t like the energy of that bar scene and avoid them like the plague.

It pains me sometimes to see people who choose to numb themselves to new concepts and ideas.  They don’t even use chemicals to do this; they merely shut down the curious part of their brains and follow a path laid out carefully before them without ever pausing to examine where they are and why they are there.  This type of person doesn’t question what they are told.  They are the followers who often live in fear.  Do you know some of them?

I remember when my daughter went through her ‘why, why, why’ stage of life.  Boy, it gets tiring to deal with those questions!  But I did love her curiosity.  She would get a cute look on her face as if she were deeply pondering that ‘why’ and she really wanted to know an answer that would satisfy her.  My answers didn’t always satisfy her but she kept plodding onward.  She still asks ‘why’ and continues to explore ideas.

Our sons were more inward in their explorations.  The older one studied lots of ideas in college and I remember his telling us about an experience he had during a play on which he was crewing and had a few moments before he was needed.  He sat and stared at his hand, pondering nothingness, when his hand disappeared and he realized that he could see the stage curtain THROUGH his hand.  Of course, this freaked him out but it left quite an impression on his young mind.

Do you foster exploration in the folks around you?  Are you ready to have a conversation about ideas that stretch your understanding?  UFOs? ETs? Nothingness?  Collective Consciousness?  Angels?  The Other Side?

Try bringing up one of these topics at your next dinner party.  It’s much more exciting than talking about the weather or sports!  Explore ideas with your friends and see which ones are willing to go there with you and which ones are afraid to step into those arenas.

Even better than talking to others, sit by yourself and ponder questions that your normal, busy life doesn’t give you time to consider.  Have you ever stared at the ocean and pondered the life beneath the surface?  Have you ever looked up at the night sky and thought about what is moving there that appears to be stationary?  When is the last time that you read a book that explored the current thinking about Consciousness?  Quantum Physics is now proving what Metaphysics has known for thousands of years – have you read anything about this?

Next time you’re in a bookstore pick up a magazine that you haven’t read before and explore some new ideas.  Then find someone to chat with about what you learned.  It’s time to step up to the responsibility to expand human awareness.  Tag – You’re It!!!

Now, Shift or Get Off the Planet! [Just kidding!  Just Shift!

Nothing can stop us when we value our gifts.  We bloom.  Just like the little plant that grows through the concrete sidewalk.  It can’t not be that plant.

How can you develop your gifts and share them more broadly this week?

MUSE-INGS: “Lift the Basket from your gifts!” by Rosemary Bredeson

If I were to ask you to make a list of your gifts, would you be able to do that?  Right now, writing them down?  Or would you have to ponder this and listen to that little voice inside your head that puts you down for thinking that you are ‘gifted’?

You DO have gifts.  Not everyone is a Mozart but everyone IS the composer of their own life.  You string together the notes of the melody by the choices that you make every day.  Big and little choices.  Are they harmonious?  Or do they seem discordant at times?  The harmonious times are the ones in which you are living with and sharing your gifts so that you are in flow with the World around you.

I know people who have the gift of peacemaking – they are able to mediate disputes, to settle arguments, to smooth ruffled feathers.  How upsetting situations could be around them if they kept their mouths shut and refused to negotiate peace.  Others have the gift of being incisive and organized and they share that gift with others.  Still others are musicians who play for the joy of the sharing.

Your gifts don’t have to be shared in your occupation or your work. You don’t have to go into business sharing your gifts, although you can.  Sometimes your greatest gift is to be shared with the people who are closest to you, those you live with, your family.  Search your inner self and be honest as you identify, accept and value your own gifts.

Look at your childhood.  What talents and gifts did you display?  Were you always drawing pictures?  Maybe you are creative at problem solving rather than painting art.  Were you always building something, from blocks, your Erector Set, model kits?  Perhaps your gift is to be the architect of new solutions to old problems, building computers or software, building structure out of chaos.

I used to play Catholic priest.  OK, I was a girl and the Church wouldn’t ordain me but that didn’t change the fact that I was always the one who lined up the neighborhood kids and played ‘Communion,’ where I would give them Necco Wafers instead of the host.  I went on to be ordained but not by the Catholic Church and Communion isn’t Necco Wafers but I do feel I have a gift as a spiritual teacher.

In my childhood I also saw things that others couldn’t see.  This was the seed of the intuitive gifts that I now use in my work as an intuitive coach and medium.  Imaginary friends are glimpses through the veil between dimensions and indicate gifts of a special kind of ‘sight’ in kids who have these friends.  Our granddaughter, when she was a crawling infant, used to comfort the other kids at day care when they got upset.  The nurse at the center said they called Makayla their ‘little healer’ because she could calm a screaming baby with a look or a touch.  All this before she could even walk!  Makayla does have a gift of healing that was evident as a tiny infant.

So what is your gift?  What gifts do you have that you have been hiding under a basket?  Maybe it is time now for you to lift the basket and share your gifts.

These gifts are meant to be given!  Thank you for sharing your gifts with the rest of us.

MUSE-INGS: “Greedy Hermit or Compassionate Conscious Being” by Rosemary Bredeson

Well, I, for one, do not want to be a ‘greedy hermit’!

And, yet, sometimes it feels greedy to just want a little time alone when there are so many demands being placed on our time and energy.  How to strike a balance?

The first way to do this is to get in touch with what is going on inside you in this present moment.  Asking yourself how you feel, what’s happening inside with relation to outside, is an important tool to cultivate.  Oftentimes we go through our days on a sort of autopilot that keeps us from being really aware of the energies within and around us.  We plow through our to-do lists, going from one project or activity to another.  How many times have you said to yourself or others, ‘In a minute…’?  Can you find a way to pause and be fully present to this moment NOW?

When we pause and take a breath into this moment we are connecting with our body and our own energy and there is a lot of information available to us through this connection.  When we are aware, we can sense our feelings and the energies of those around us.  The more you practice this skill the greater will be your awareness of these energies.

For example, if you are blithely going through your day and yet a co-worker or spouse or child is struggling with their day, do you take time to notice?  Or are you so wrapped up in your own stuff that you are oblivious to that struggle?  It is not a judgment against you if the answer is ‘yes’ but this could be your wake-up call that sometimes you need to come up for air and, like a submarine’s periscope, scan the horizon for what is going on around you.

Do you participate in conversations or discussions without really listening to what others are saying, verbally and non-verbally?  Maybe you can start checking on yourself every so often to see where your attention has been and bring it back to connecting with those around you.

Watching your language, your tone of voice, making eye contact, your body language – all of these awarenesses can lead you to improving the connections that you have with others.  With more information about what is going on with the other or others, compassion can rise up in your heart and you can offer that energy in response to what is going on.  If you are clueless to what is happening around you, then you cannot connect to compassion.  And you want to.

Compassion is a very high frequency energy that is important to the world today.  The more we can share that energy the more the Planet can benefit.  One compassionate act can also bring others along with it.  The compassionate one can bring awareness to the clueless, can move the ‘greedy hermit’ into consideration of others.  Compassion can be contagious!  Wouldn’t you like to be the Typhoid Mary of Compassion?

Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to spread compassion this week wherever you find yourself.  At a gathering, look around for the person who seems lonely or alone and chat with them.  At home, look at the others in your household and really see them.  Ask questions and stay interested in their answers.  On the street or at the mall, try walking around smiling at people, saying, ‘Excuse me’ if you bump into them, or even if they bump into you.  Ask the server at the restaurant how they are doing and listen to their answer.  Spread compliments [heart-felt, please!] everywhere you go.  If you are looking for something to compliment you will not be focused on finding fault.

Become more aware of others and of what is going on inside you.  Awareness brings consciousness and compassion can spring from that.  See what it feels like to keep yourself in this high frequency energy!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Infinite Life: Seven Virtues for Living Well” by Robert Thurman

“Think of how infinite you can feel while staring at the ocean, marveling at how those waves have continued tumbling ceaselessly, churning forth life for billions of years.  Or consider the profound sense of connection with all life you gain from gazing up at a clear night sky in the wilderness, marveling at the inconceivable profusion of stars in the vast depths of space.”

from Infinite Life:
Seven Virtues for Living Well

by Robert Thurman

How do you experience ‘the profound sense of connection with all life’?  Robert Thurman offers a couple of ways.  I look at people and their pets.  How easy it is to love and accept those fluffballs of fur and to feel that they are the ones connecting to us!  We are all One.  Remember that the astronauts who viewed Planet Earth from space for the first time saw one blue planet.  We are One with Mother Earth as well as with each other.  Let’s love all of us!
