Big day in the heavens yesterday! The New Moon happened on September 13, early in the morning (2:41am Eastern Daylight Time) and the lineup of the Earth, Moon and Sun gave us a partial Solar Eclipse (sadly, not visible in the US). New Moons are the beginning of the Moon cycles and encourage us to focus on the ‘new.’ Solar Eclipses magnify this energy of ‘new’ and encourage us to evolve. This eclipse is ‘facilitating a reconfiguration and rebooting of consciousness.’ (The Mountain Astrologer magazine) That is potent energy! Have you been feeling it? I have been in this shake-up since the last Full Moon! My personal experience of this ‘rebooting’ is that I have fully embraced the Universe as an abundant place to live. I focus on abundance, in all areas. And the generosity of the Universe is astounding me! I keep winning things that I need – including a distant healing session for our dog, Tara! (or did Tara manifest that one? Hmmm…) Pay attention to the Exploration article in this newsletter (link). Notice where your thoughts are taking you. You are in manifesting mode whether or not you are conscious and intentional or you are disbelieving in this manifestation stuff. Doesn’t it make sense to go ahead and think about what you want instead of what you don’t want, just in case those of us who have figured this out are right? With the New Moon and the Solar Eclipse energy around, there is potent energy to help you manifest something new in your life. And the energy of an eclipse stays effecting us for the next 6 months! We are also coming up on the next Mercury retrograde, when that planet appears to move backward in the sky. Some people groan when they hear this, others get huge bursts of creativity. Just be sure to be careful, read before signing, be patient with communication snafus September 17 – October 9. The Sun is finishing up its annual tour in Virgo and enters the sign of Libra on September 23, which is also the Autumnal Equinox. ‘Balance’ is the keyword here. Use the time before the Equinox to find Balance in the flow of your life. On that day with equal daylight and darkness, look at your life and decide how to live in balance so that you can ‘go with the flow.’ We’re really busy around here with Fall activities. Goodbye, Leo! Hello, Virgo!
As a Leo baby I celebrate my birthday the whole time the Sun is in the sign of Leo. (OK, WE celebrate since my husband, Richard, and I both have August 2 birthdays!) And now we have a new Leo grandbaby who will join us every year in celebrating this Sun sign. The Sun moved into the next sign of the zodiac, Virgo, on Saturday, August 23 at 12:46 am Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
Virgo is the sign of details and orderliness. Leo might have given us grandiose ideas and Virgo gives us the systems to get those ideas into practical form. I’ll bet that it was a Virgo who came up with the idea of ‘Fall Cleaning’! Time to get organizing.

New Moon is today, Monday, August 25 at 10:13 am EDT. This is when the Sun and the Moon meet up at the same degree of the sign of Virgo and the Moon is barely visible in the night sky. For the following 14 days the Moon grows and helps us to attract growing things into our lives. Make a plan for what you will be inviting into your life as the Moon grows to Full this time.
A word about Transformation: a lot of my clients are seeking their Next Step, which is what we focus on in the mentoring/coaching work that we do together, but I’m seeing these days huge transformations as individuals align with their Life Purpose and take steps to manifest that Purpose in the World. We’re heading for a Virgo New Moon on September 5 at 7:38 am Eastern Daylight Time. This means that both the Sun and the Moon are in the astrological sign of Virgo and we’ll be feeling the energy of wanting to take inventory of our lives and our stuff. What to keep and what to release? What needs healing? What do we need to change so that we can live our purpose?

We’re still in the middle of moving in(i.e., unpacking boxes) but we just hung our biggest picture, one of Mother Mary, and that makes our house seem like our home. Funny how one beautiful object can bring such peace and joy!
Welcome to the world of Virgo! Lover of beauty and details. The Sun entered the sign of Virgo on August 22 (the day we did the picture-hanging!) and left fiery Leo. Now we can look around us and inside of ourselves to find the beauty that is there. This is a good time to evaluate your environment to make sure that you feel comfortable and that things are neat and beautiful.

I accompanied our grandson to his ‘Meet the Teacher Day’ at his elementary school and started thinking about the beginning of the school year. Even if there’s no one in the house who is in school, it feels as if it’s a time of new beginnings. Think about what you want to do with the rest of 2013. What would you like to learn? Happy Birthday to YOU!!! – Richard’s Commentary
September 5, 2013 — RichardAnd I can also say Happy Birthday to the Moon today! She is new in Virgo. This just occurred at 7:38 am Eastern time.
Do you celebrate the New Moon each “moonth”? Are you aware of the phases of the moon and her travels through the night sky? The Ancients paid a great deal of attention to this goddess of the heavens. She lighted the way of night travelers, guided the seasons and times to plant, provided a calendar, effected tides and seafaring, and offered a rhythm to life and the basis of myth and wonder.
From modern research we know that life would be very different, if it existed at all, if it weren’t for our moon. Her influence on the planet and our lives is profound. So, I pay a lot of attention to her phases and my interaction with her. If you’ve been reading my posts for a while you’ll know, for example, that I cast an I Ching Gua (a hexagram of yin and yang lines) at each new moon to divine an energy for the up-coming month. (I’ll post that tomorrow.) I also celebrate the new moon as a new beginning, as a birthday of sorts, very much in keeping with Rosemary’s message this week. So, on this new moon day consider her advice:
Happy Birthday to YOU!!! Today is your birthday. You get to choose who you are today, right now, in this moment. You don’t even have to be the same as you were when you woke up this morning. OR you can decide that you like the YOU who woke up and you re-decide to celebrate YOU! Either way, it’s your birthday today.
It is a good time to start something new. I’m going to plant some fall vegetables in my garden today. And Rosemary and I are going to review our business plan and model to determine what’s working and what can be improved. It’s a new day as well as a new moon!
And this new moon is in the sign of Virgo. This too has special meaning. A dear friend and astrologer, Gloria Hesseloff, titled in her newsletter for the New Moon: Work is Love made Visible, using a line from a poem by Kahil Gibran. The Virgo Moon calls us to a higher work. Gloria writes:
Virgo energy challenges you to release any obstacles to finding your sacred work. Integrating this goal with the radical changes that Pluto and Uranus are demanding of us right now, ask yourself, “What changes do I need to make to my daily life routines and patterns (Virgo attributes) so I can be an instrument of the Divine?
Virgo energy asks you to become highly competent in a skill that is of value to others. Then generously offer it as your high service. Your specific gifts are truly needed at this significant moment in history.
Today is your birthday! Celebrate with me as I celebrate this New Moon and “the first day of the rest of my life”! We are always at choice. I choose to make my love visible through my work.
