BOOK LIGHTS: a quote from “A Gift of Inner Peace” by Gill Farrer-Halls

“All life is a flowing, a continual process of becoming, change and transformation.”

by Nyanatiloka Mahathera

We can’t avoid change.  Our only choice is to resist or to go with the flow.  As the Borg say on Star Trek, “Resistance is futile.”  Being prepared for change, though, can make our lives flow more smoothly.  Be prepared. Do the inner work.  Accept change.

BOOK LIGHTS: “The New Codependency: Help and Guidance for Today’s Generation”

“It’s our job to take care of our feelings and let other people take care of theirs.  It’s okay to give to people – but don’t give to get people to like us.  Give because we want to, when giving comes from our heart.  Speak up for other people, but speak up for ourselves, too.  Stick to your responsibilities and let other people take care of theirs.”

by Melody Beattie

We have so many different ways of relating to other people that we sometimes forget that the most important thing we can do is to be ourselves, to be in charge of our own lives, and to define healthy boundaries so that each of us can become empowered.  As Melody Beattie says, ‘Stick to your responsibilities and let other people take care of theirs.’  By being empowered yourself, you assist others in finding their own empowerment, but it’s not your job to do it for them!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey”

“Frankly, I find this sort of mental obsessing by my left hemisphere storyteller to be a waste of time and emotionally draining.  Thanks to my stroke, I have learned that I can own my power and stop thinking about events that have occurred in the past by consciously realigning myself with the present.”

by Jill Bolte Taylor

Jill Bolte Taylor, who studied the brain, had a stroke and studied her own brain from within.  Through learning to be conscious in the present moment, she reclaimed her own power.  Dwelling on the past or worrying about the future drains away the power available to us in the present.  Stay focused on the present moment and find the power within you!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything”

“Think about a time when you were transported beyond what you normally define as yourself.  When time stopped.  When you felt the edges of ordinary life dissolve and a door open to another dimension.  Maybe it happened only once, when you were in the middle of a rain forest or gave birth to your child.  Maybe it happened when you were twenty and on drugs.  Maybe it happens whenever you are in nature or when, for no reason, you are suddenly happy.  Five minutes ago you were dragging your feet. The sun was too hot.  Your kids were screeching or your boss was yelling and you hated your life.  And suddenly you caught a glimpse of beauty and it’s as if someone opened the cage door and let you out of the iron vise of your mind.  And not one thing has changed from the moment before but everything looks and feels and is completely different.”

by Geneen Roth

We all know that Joy is here, in this present moment.  Life sometimes causes us to forget, but it’s accessible.  Just remember…

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Seven Whispers: Listening to the Voice of Spirit”

“In the coming years, I believe that we in the West will be challenged as never before to look at the question of what we really need and what we have the obligation to offer in order to re-establish balance in the global human family.  We cannot escape the system the world is living in at this time.  We cannot get pure, or self-righteous, or use our spirituality to remove ourselves from the mess we are in.  We can only consider our actions within the circle of reciprocity.”

by Christina Baldwin

‘The circle of reciprocity’ – what a nice way to describe Karma!  Our actions, and those of others, are always occurring within this circle.  Judging or having compassion – for ourselves and for others – those are the choices.  Let us commit to live a Conscious Life by planning to choose compassion!

BOOK LIGHTS: from “My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey”

“My right mind celebrates its freedom in the universe and is not bogged down by my past or fearful of what the future may or may not bring.  It honors my life and the health of all my cells.  And it doesn’t just care about my body; it cares about the fitness of your body, our mental health as a society, and our relationship with Mother Earth.”

by Jill Bolte Taylor

Do you know Jill Bolte Taylor’s story?  She studies the brain and she suffered a stroke that allowed her to do her studying and observing from the inside out.  What she learned about how the right hemisphere operates changed her life.  It is very easy to get stuck in our left brains, the parts that use logic and rely on what we are taught, but within our right brain lie the connections to The Greater, to Joy, and to each other.  When we use our intuition, we get better information to guide ‘our relationship with Mother Earth’!  [I highly recommend watching Ms. Taylor’s video from Ted TV on YouTube if you haven’t seen it.  And this book is inspiring!]

BOOK LIGHTS: from “The Power of Focus”

“A friend in Arizona, George Addair, told us about a firefighter who attended one of his self-knowledge workshops.  He said, ‘Firefighters deal with fear every time they prepare to enter a burning building.  Just before they go into action they experience it – the uncertainty of not knowing if they’ll survive or not.  An incredible transformation takes place as soon as they go inside the building.  They literally step into the fear, and because they do, the fear disappears.  They are 100 percent in the present moment.  They are then able to concentrate on fighting the fire, evacuating people and doing all the things they were trained to do.  By confronting their fear, they can focus on the immediate situation and get the job done.'”

by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen

The answer is always ‘Be fully present in this moment NOW.’  That’s where all the resources are.  If you find yourself in fear, ask what is going on in this moment, what you can learn from it, and what the fear has to say to you.  When you are totally present to this moment, you will find the resources you need to move beyond the fear!

“How to Wake Up to a World of Wonder:

“If a sleepwalker wants to stop bumping into things, what must he do?  Wake up.  That’s all.  Just wake up.  So must the man or woman in psychic sleep.  He or she must open the eyes of understanding.”

by Vernon Howard

So are you sleepwalking through history?  What would it take for you to wake up to the signals that are around you and ‘…open the eyes of understanding’?  Decide to notice.  That’s all it takes.

“What an irony!  I had spent a lifetime earning others’ love, approval, and admiration by giving, serving, helping, caring, and striving to do my best, even if it meant sacrificing my own needs and personal desires or goals, and even if it destroyed my health.  And here I’d discovered that this love and self-worth I’d been seeking had been there all along!  Nothing to do to get it – just be it, know it.”

Brandon Bays

You ARE Love!!!  All you need to do is REMEMBER!  When you hold onto that thought, your vibration automatically is lifted into the Love frequency.  Try it and enjoy!

BOOK LIGHTS: from The Power of Focus: “What the World’s Greatest Achievers Know About The Secret to Financial Freedom & Success”

“Success isn’t magic or hocus-pocus.  It’s simply learning how to focus.”

by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt

Success in LIFE comes from learning how to focus on the JOY in the moment.  The people we want to be around are those who can uplift us when we struggle to find joy in a particular moment.  Let’s try to be the one who uplifts others because we are well-practiced at looking around until we find the joy available to us RIGHT NOW!!!!
