MUSE-INGS: Eat, Drink and Be Conscious

The children.  They should always be our concern when we are making decisions.  As any real estate agent will tell you, families with children are considering the number of bedrooms/bathrooms they need for the kids, the schools in the area, the protection of the yard for playing outdoors, where the parks are, how close to the road is the house, and lots of other factors.

But it seems we live in a crazy world where the food that goes into their bodies isn’t anywhere near as healthy as it should be.  Breakfast foods that aren’t really food don’t prepare the children for a good day of learning at school.  McDonald’s meals might not provide the healthiest balance of ingredients that they need.  Many kids refuse to eat the foods that Mom & Dad know they should eat.  What can a parent do?

It seems to me that everyone can only do their best.  Offering fast food only occasionally if at all is a start.  Buying fresh food choices and teaching the kids to prepare food introduces them to a future of healthy eating.  Your little one might really enjoy some one-on-one time in the kitchen with you as you prepare a meal together.  Some kids would love to help out but the folks are tired and just want to get the meal over with so they lose an opportunity for togetherness in the activity.

Sometimes kids are kept out of the kitchen to be out of the way for their own safety.  I used to worry when I heard that my little girl was peeling carrots in her Montessori classroom but she showed me at home, standing on a chair at the sink because she was so short, that she could safely handle a peeler and a carrot.  She learned to cook standing on a chair by the stove, with me close by.  Bring a child into the kitchen with you and teach her to use a recipe to prepare something delicious.

But it’s not just food, is it, that is harming our kids?  We need to understand how complicated life is in this 21st Century.  We’re all breathing air that is less than perfect for our bodies.  We all have to drink water and we pay huge amounts to try to get healthier water that doesn’t have chlorine or fluoride or bacteria in it but that does have the minerals we need.  I tried to get an ice cream cone in London from an American chain and was told they don’t carry Rocky Road because the ingredients are genetically-modified, not allowed to be imported there.  How many food products are we eating that contain molecules of pesticide in them?  And we don’t even know the answer because we have no way to find out.

So Conscious Living would require us to pay attention to what goes into our bodies and the bodies of the children in our lives.  Do you know the source of the food you eat, the water you drink?  Have you paid attention to the air quality in your area?

For some people this will spur them into political action to demand that their environment and what they take into their bodies is as healthy as they can get it.  For some it will become a crusade to make sure that they and their family are careful about these things.  I’m hoping that some will think about areas of the world where the people are desperate for anything to eat or drink and where help is needed in meeting the simplest of requirements for life.

We in the Western World have the luxury of examining the chemical content of our food while there are many on Earth who would love to have that concern.  Let’s be careful about what we eat and drink and the air we breathe while we also do something about all those children who have nothing to eat, no clean water to drink.  Maybe we can achieve a balance so that this wonderful Mother Earth can provide sustenance for all her children, healthy sustenance that keeps them all alive and healthy and thriving to advance humanity into evolved consciousness.

BOOK LIGHTS: From “Notes from the Universe” by Mike Dooley

“It’s not possible!

You cannot significantly change your life, for better or worse, by manipulating the material world.  Not by working harder, not by studying longer, not by schmoozing, not by sweating, not by fasting, not by the hair of your chinny, chin, chin.

But change, great change, is inescapable, when you first begin manipulating the world of your thoughts, which weigh a whole lot less than material things, anyway.

It’s that simple.

— The Universe”

From Notes from the Universe by Mike Dooley

Change your thoughts, change the world.  That tag line has been on my business card for a long time but I’ve recently changed it to: Expand Your Mind * Empower Your Life * Evolve The World.  Every change we make has to happen in our thoughts first.  And then the impact is not just on us and our world, but on everything around us, the whole Planet.  Time to get in touch with what we’re REALLY thinking and believing, wouldn’t you say?

MUSE-INGS: To Change or Not to Change?

The Transformation Energy is really strong around here!  Every day there is some new thought, some new concept to flesh out and implement, some new program to offer.  And I am seeing this with clients, too.  The messages are about change that is coming for them and how to handle that change.

Are you someone who easily and openly embraces change or is it a struggle for you to deal with change when it is thrust upon you?  I believe there are people who answer both ways to that question.  For those who find it easy to embrace change their lesson comes in discerning the changes that are appropriate for them.  Some people like change for the sake of change and are learning to stay focused, to deepen their experience of something before they move on.  Some have trouble with commitment and so they embrace the opportunity for change as an escape route away from ‘being stuck.’  Some folks struggle with discontent over what is and wish to change to escape what they are experiencing rather than learn the lessons available to them before they change the circumstances.

And then there are those who do not want any change at all.  They are happily wedded to the status quo and choose not to change anything, even a little.  Often times those who run from change are running from something else within themselves, usually fear, often an unexamined fear.  In this category are people who have become familiar with pain and they fear the unknown so they stay with the familiar, even if it is painful.  It is often difficult for these people to embrace change, even if they want to or know it would be beneficial.

So when The Divine Feminine tells us that this year is about Transformation Energy, how do we embrace that concept no matter what our relationship to ‘change’ might be?

The first place to start is by understanding that, as evolving sentient beings we are always undergoing change within ourselves.  Our physical cells are dying and being replaced every moment we exist.  With every new experience we have new information in our mental data bases with which to approach every situation.  We are aging, we are learning new things, and the people around us are also developing.  To fight Transformation is to attempt to stem a tide that is already pulling us along.  Change isn’t necessarily bad just because it brings with it something different.

And change isn’t necessarily good just because it brings with it something different.  Some times what we are doing or being doesn’t need to change.

The important aspect of Transformation is that it occurs in our consciousness first.  We change how we think or what we believe to be true.  We examine ourselves in a context and we look for underlying reasons for behaviors and actions.  We become truly conscious and aware and ask questions rather than choosing to act out of habit.  It might be that in certain instances we choose not to change but that choice is made after careful consideration–it becomes a conscious choice about ourselves and our life.  That is Conscious Living.  Being deliberate.  Noticing in every moment where our thoughts and behaviors originate.  Do I really believe this or did someone else plant their belief in me?  Is what used to be true for me still true today or in this circumstance?  Am I choosing to change at this time because I wish to move forward toward something new or am I running away from something familiar?

When Transformation Energy is available to us we can embrace it with open arms but we must also examine what and why we’re transforming with that energy.  Learning how to use this energy is part of growing on the path of Conscious Living.

BOOK LIGHTS: From the Sumerian songs of Goddess Inanna

BOOK LIGHTS:

‘He put his hand in her hand.

He put his hand to her heart.

Sweet is the sleep of hand-to-hand.

Sweeter still the sleep of heart-to-heart.’

From the Sumerian songs of Goddess Inanna
as translated in
Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth:
Her Stories and Hymns from Sumer
By Diane Wolkstein and Samuel Noah Kramer

This description of Inanna with her consort, Dumuzi, shows the tenderness of an open-hearted connection – ‘sweeter still.’  I like the image of these powerful figures sleeping with hands held and hearts connected.

MUSE-INGS: Hold the World in Love

Sometimes the hardest message about Love that we have to hear is the one about loving from a centered place that does not necessarily reflect what we are feeling in a certain moment.  Feelings can overwhelm us and when we are faced with a very emotional situation it can be extremely difficult to remember to project the energy of Universal Love.

The way to remind ourselves is to pause, take a breath, and notice how we feel without acting on that feeling yet.  Of course, if what you are feeling is fear of the sabre-toothed tiger who is bearing down on you, then you might want to run while you pause! But, even then, you will find that reaching into the place of peace and Universal Love within you and projecting that energy outside of yourself can calm the energy around you.  A friend encountered a mountain lion near her kitchen door and she went outside holding only Love and peaceful energy within her. She talked soothingly to the mountain lion while he looked at her.  The picture shows a brilliant light shining forth from the eyes of the mountain lion – an amazing photo!  My friend stayed in a higher vibration than fear and had a wonderful experience of close proximity with a mountain lion.

So what happens when we pause and breathe?  We then have time to move into the ‘observer mode,’ the place where we have the most resources for choosing a course of action.  When we can observe ourselves in a situation we can also observe possible outcomes of the choices we see before us.  If we stay in the emotion of the moment our vision is narrowed and we frequently can’t see multiple options from which to choose our next step.  And when we notice what is going on in our body in that moment we have even more information to work with.

Try this the next time you are interacting with someone, even if there are not intense emotions in the minute.  Take a second to visualize the Light and Love that is streaming into the top of your head from your connection to the Universal Source of Love and Light and connect with that energy in your Heart Center.  Then really look at the person, really notice them, really listen to them.  Notice how it feels in you when you do this.  This isn’t about bombarding them with Light energy, for that would be an invasion of their boundaries.  This is more like holding a space for them to be in connection with you in a bubble of this Love and Light.  They have the option of choosing to step into the bubble or to step away from it, but you are defining the vibration in which you wish to hold this interaction.  When someone chooses not to engage at this level of energy, that is their prerogative but you don’t have to step into a space that is not appropriate for you.

The person who is living the Conscious Life will practice always operating from this level of awareness and connection, with other people and with the Universal Source of Love and Light.  Imagine how peaceful the world would be if everyone operated in this energy.  You might not have the power to make the entire world enjoy this vibration but the world around you will certainly change when you are holding this energy in every situation!

MUSE-INGS: What is Reality?

There are so many ways to experience reality and yet so often we are moving through our lives with blinders on.  A popular saying is,  ‘Believing is seeing.’  How true!  If we don’t believe something we have trouble observing it.

Are you one of the people who has had an experience of orbs, the spheres of light that are appearing on many people’s digital pictures?  They are a worldwide phenomenon that is enchanting those who chose not to dismiss or be afraid of them.  Most believe orbs to be consciousness appearing from a dimension beyond our usual three dimensions.  Who can say that this is not so?  Our friend was seeing orbs on a hike with someone who was not seeing them and laughed at the concept.  Laughed, that is, until he looked at the pictures he had taken on the hike and discovered that the orbs appeared in the last photo he had shot.

Do you have or know children who have imaginary friends?  Many are comfortable as long as they focus on the ‘imaginary’ part of this, but can you truly say the child is not experiencing a presence that perhaps you cannot see?

And what of angels or fairies?  Some can see these beings and others cannot.  Does the fact that someone can’t see an angel mean that there are no angels? Of course not.

Yet how often do we discount even our own experience of something that we cannot explain?  Too often, I think.  Each of us has had the experience of knowing who is calling when the phone rings, even before looking at caller id.  Since I don’t believe in coincidence, I accept the notion that we are somehow connected to that person and know the contact before we pick up the phone.  Twins don’t even need the phone to communicate.   You’ve probably had the experience of thinking of someone and then having that person contact you, even if you hadn’t been in contact for awhile.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.

The next time you have an experience that tests your understanding of reality give yourself permission to let the experience be the definition of a new reality for you.  Ask yourself what limiting beliefs are holding you back from accepting this new reality.  You might find someone else’s reality is trying to overlay yours.  Let it go!  Accept that your reality is your reality and no one else gets to tell you that it is not.

This doesn’t just apply to orbs or angels or fairies.  Think in terms of what you believe about yourself, what you think you deserve, what you believe you are capable of in life.  You have the power to change your beliefs.  You deserve to live your own life, free of the constraints of other people’s definitions of reality.  You can do things beyond your former understanding if you stretch your beliefs about yourself.

Allow yourself to expand your understanding of reality for yourself and there are no limits to the life you can lead.  If you are sensing reaction to this idea, then maybe it is time to work with someone to clear those limiting beliefs and experience a new expanded reality for yourself.
